I had the pleasure of learning about hemp fiber from the practical point of view and wasn't overly biased to expect a coarse product. I was amazed at how soft it was. The picture shows me teasing (cleaning) a batch of vat retted hemp, which bleached white as snow in the sun. In my distant past I had worked with wool for a short period, shearing, cleaning, carding, spinning and dyeing wool. This knowledge came in very handy for the museum curator of such a famous fiber plant.
