the National Commission on Marijuana and Drug Abuse, in 1972 No one in power listened.

Hemp and marijuana have been around humans and their ancestors before them for eons of time, maybe as much as 1.7 million years since the first migrations out of Africa to the steppes of Central Asia where hemp is native to the area.

With 1.7 million years to work with it is safe to assume that recreational use did not start in the 1960's with the hip generation or even in the 1910's & 20's with the reefer madness. The Book of Grass states, "Marihuana has been used freely by a large proportion of the World's population since prehistoric times...(is) a significant feature of religious rites among the ancient Hindus, Scythians and Iranians."

Study after study in the last 100 years of the use of hemp recreationally has recommended decreased penalties and more tolerancetoward the plant.

In their "Final Comment," the National Commission on Marijuana and Drug Abuse, in 1972, gave this striking comment on the use of marijuana:

"Considering the range of social concerns in contemporary America, marijuana does not, in our considered judgment, rank very high. We would de-emphasize marijuana as a problem...The existing social and legal policy is out of proportion to the individual and social harm engendered by the use of the drug."
